Franks announces his campaign

State Rep. Jamie Franks of Mooreville officially kicked off his run for lieutenant governor with a statewide tour this week, starting in his hometown, stopping at the state Capitol and ending on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Franks outlined his plans if elected, emphasizing his support for proposals that have died in the state Senate - including proposals to raise the state’s 18-cents-a-pack tax on cigarettes and reduce the state’s 7 percent sales tax on groceries.
Franks also signed a pledge in Jackson authored by the Communities for a Clean Bill of Health promising to support a cigarette tax increase in the 2008 Mississippi Legislature.
